California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress
Summative Assessments and California Science Test, 2018–19

 

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Each year, students in grades three through eight and high school participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).

This year, your child will take the following test(s), depending on their grade level:

• Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy and mathematics in grades three through eight and grade eleven
• California Science Test (CAST) in grades five and eight and once in high school
• iReady Math and Reading Assessment (Lancaster District Mandate)
• High School Reading and Math Placement Test (High School District Mandate)

The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments and the CAST are online tests that measure what your student knows and is able to do. The tests include many different types of questions that allow students to interact with the test questions. Results help identify gaps in knowledge or skills early on so your child can get the support needed to be successful in school.

LAVA will have a modified scheduled Beginning Monday April 15th and through May 17th, 2019.  

Morning Schedule: Breakfast 8:30 and Testing will start promptly at 9:00- Dismissal 11:15.

 

Afternoon Schedule: Lunch 12:15 and Testing will start promptly at 12:45.- Dismissal 2:45.

There will be additional science testing required of all 5th and 8th graders.  This will take place on Tuesdays: 

8th Grade: April 16, 23 & 30th 8:30 - 11:15 am

5th Grade May 7 & 14th 8:30 - 11:15 am

 

All other students are welcome to participate in their regular Tuesday sessions with Ms. Stock

 

You are an important part of your child’s education. To help your child get ready for the test you can:

• Talk about the test with your child. Make sure they are not scared or anxious.
• Tell your child that you and their teacher have high expectations and are both there to help, every step of the way.
• Take a practice test with your child.
• Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast before testing.

All 3^rd-8^th Grade Students are required to take California State Testing.

 

When your student has completed all of their testing, their teacher will inform you. 

 

Students are required to maintain and complete their Odysseyware and iReady assignments at home throughout the testing window.

Regular Workshops will be held for those students who have completed their testing.  As usual all students are strongly encouraged to attend workshops.
