Immigration Resources

Statement from the superintendent

Statement from the superintendent

Our School District remains committed to providing safe inclusive learning spaces for all our students regardless of immigration status. We recognize our students, their families, and our employees' families may be affected by potential changes to immigration policies. We want to clarify what roles schools and school employees play in relation to the implementation of any new immigration policies.

As we continue to navigate the potential impact immigration enforcement can have on our educational setting, our goal is to assist you with an understanding of how to best support our students and families as it relates to their educational experience. To guide us in this work, we will be using our school board policy and administrative regulation (BP 5145.13 & AR 5145.13), which provide a clear protocol and guidelines regarding our response to immigration enforcement.
Please take time to familiarize yourself with the relevant school board policy and administrative regulation, as they are designed to ensure that we approach this sensitive issue with care and a strong commitment to following the rule of law. We have provided a quick reference guide that outlines how to respond to requests for access to students or school grounds.

We understand that these developments may lead to feelings of uncertainty, fear, or anxiety for some students, staff, and families in our community. It is important that during this time, we remain compassionate and informed while complying with any new policies and laws.

Please remember our primary focus is to create a positive and respectful environment where all students feel valued and safe. If you encounter any students or families who may be struggling with these issues, please direct them to the appropriate resources at your site (students to School Counselors and families to Family Ambassadors). Together, we can ensure that every student and family in our district are informed of their rights and feel supported.  We reaffirm our commitment to valuing and respecting our diversity, building and strengthening our communities of care, and partnering to build a sense of belonging and connectedness. Thank you for your ongoing dedication to our students and their well-being. Should you have any questions or need further information, do not hesitate to reach out.

In Solidarity,

Dr. Paul M. Marietti
Superintendent of Schools
