Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

Our Special Education Department is committed to building positive relationships with families and working collaboratively to support students. Sometimes, disagreements may arise during the special education process. Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) offers families and schools a voluntary, informal, and collaborative way to resolve concerns without needing to go through a formal legal process.

ADR focuses on open communication, problem-solving, and teamwork to reach solutions that are in the best interest of the student. Options may include facilitated meetings, collaborative coaching, or support from neutral third parties to help guide discussions.

ADR is supported by the California Department of Education (CDE), and the Lancaster School District is dedicated to utilizing the ADR process to to improve communication, collaboration, negotiation, and mediation to produce a resolution that meets the needs of the student.
