Mandated Hearing and Vision Screening Provided by School Nurses
Lancaster School District provides state-mandated hearing and vision screening to all Kindergarten, 2nd-grade, 5th-grade, and 8th-grade students in compliance with Education Code 49455. Parents/Guardians are notified with a written referral form whenever a student does not pass a screening. Parents/Guardians must notify the school site in writing if they want to opt their students out of mandated hearing and vision screenings.
Vision to Learn (VTL)
Lancaster School District is happy to partner with Vision to Learn (VTL), a national non-profit organization, to provide all students at selected schools with free vision screenings, eye exams and glasses per Education Code 4955.5. Parents/Guardians may opt out of the eye examinations by completing the opt-out form. Parents/Guardians will be notified of upcoming Vision to Learn screenings and eye exams through ParentSquare. Students will receive opt-out forms to take home.
Consent: Parents/Guardians who do not want Vision to Learn to provide their students with a vision screening or eye exam must complete the opt-out form. If no opt-out form is received, the student will receive a vision screening and eye exam (if needed) from Vision to Learn.
Notice: Vision to Learn offers vision services to students during the school day. Lancaster School District is happy to host these services. Please note that Vision to Learn is an outside provider and not directly affiliated with Lancaster School District. Any services provided by Vision to Learn are between the student's family and Vision to Learn. KINDERGARTEN ORAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT
Lancaster School District Health Services is excited to partner with GeriSmiles, a mobile dental hygiene clinic, to complete oral health screenings for Kindergarten students per Education Code 49452.8. This Education Code requires that proof of an oral health assessment by a dental health professional be presented to the school by May 31st of the kindergarten school year. The examination will consist of the dental health professional shining a flashlight into the student's mouth for about 30 seconds. No dental treatment will be provided as part of this assessment. A record of the assessment will be provided. If parents/guardians want to opt their kindergarten students out of the oral health assessment, they need to complete the opt-out form when it is sent home with their students. School sites will notify student families of the date of the oral health assessment with an opt-out form.
LA COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH TB RISK ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENT FOR ALL NEW ENROLLMENTS
Los Angeles County Public Health has noted an increase in Tuberculosis (TB) cases. As a result, they have issued a health officer order that requires all new enrollments as of February 1st, 2026, to complete a TB risk assessment. This Assessment can be completed from 1 year prior to enrollment and up to 90 days after enrollment. Please take the assessment to your primary care provider. You may also contact your school nurse to complete the Pediatric TB risk assessment. If risk factors are identified, your school nurse will follow up with you regarding the next steps.

El Departamento de Salud Pública del Condado de Los Ángeles ha notado un aumento en los casos de tuberculosis (TB). Por ello, ha emitido una orden oficial de salud que exige que todos los nuevos alumnos matriculados a partir del 1 de febrero de 2026 se sometan a una evaluación de riesgo de TB. Esta evaluación puede realizarse desde un año antes de la matriculación hasta 90 días después. Por favor, lleve la evaluación a su médico de cabecera. También puede contactar a la enfermera de su escuela para completar la evaluación de riesgo de TB pediátrica. Si se identifican factores de riesgo, la enfermera de su escuela se pondrá en contacto con usted para informarle sobre los siguientes pasos.
