    "Flight of the Monarchs"

    Watch Our Monarchs Soar!

    Weekly Update

The video below is an amalgamation of video "shorts" posted to our social media during the

    Week of April 1 - 21, 2024

Why Computer Science? The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment in computer and information technology occupations will grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. Our students need these skills to be competitive in the future job market. Additionally, over 90% of parents indicate that they want more Computer Science Education opportunities for their children, yet only 6% of Superintendents perceive this demand. Lancaster School District has set Mariposa Computer Science Magnet School apart from other schools.

What do students do at MCSMS? Teaching methods integrate both Programming and Game Design, giving students a well–rounded understanding of how to utilize technology to create. This is a paradigm shift for kids, transitioning them from being just players to being creators.

    • Cycle 1 introduces students to block coding through the Scratch programming language developed by MIT.
    • Cycle 2 combines block coding skills with LEGOs and LEGO Robotics.
    • Cycle 3, grades TK-K further develop their Scratch coding skills, while grades 1st-6th learn the behind the scenes action with actual coding of players in Minecraft (as opposed to just playing) with a focus on block coding and JavaScript. Students at MCSMS use their coding and robotics skills to create projects across the curriculum. The possibilities are endless!

Where can I learn more? Contact us to learn how your child can get started on learning skills they can use in a promising career path.

Not interested in a computer coding job? No problem! Our program teaches skills needed in any job: problem solving, creative thinking, perseverance, patience, organization and collaboration through coding in the classroom.

Lancaster School District Health Services is excited to partner with Gerismiles, a mobile dental hygiene clinic, to complete oral health screenings for kindergarten students per Education Code 49452.8.

This Education Code requires that proof of an oral health assessment by a dental health professional be presented to the school by May 31st of the kindergarten school year.

The examination will consist of the dental health professional shining a flashlight into the student's mouth for about 30 seconds.  No dental treatment will be provided as part of this assessment. A record of the assessment will be provided.

If parents/guardians want to opt their kindergarten students out of the oral health assessment, they need to complete the opt-out form when it is sent home with their students.

School sites will notify student families of the date of the oral health assessment with an opt-out form.
