• School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support

Sierra has implemented a School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Program (PBIS) to provide a continuum of interventions for responding to student behaviors. A three-tiered preventative response allows all students to receive supports at either the universal, strategic, or intensive phase of response to behavior interventions. All students are explicitly taught school wide behavioral expectations.  Behavioral expectations are positively stated and easy to remember. Students receive incentives and positive reinforcements for following behavioral expectations. If the behavior of some students is not responsive, more intensive behavior supports are provided or a highly individualized plan for support is constructed by a team of professionals trained to provide behavior support.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive system-wide framework for creating and maintaining safe and effective learning environments in schools, and ensuring that all students have the social skills needed to ensure their success at school and beyond.  School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (SWPBIS) is comprised of intervention practices and organizational systems for establishing the social culture, learning and teaching environment, and individual behavior supports needed to achieve academic and social success for all students.  Teaching behavior as relentlessly as we teach reading or other academic content is the ultimate act of prevention, promise, and power underlying PBIS and other preventive interventions in America’s schools.
