Families will have multiple opportunities to receive information about the changes in grading and the new report card at their student's school. We will also be asking for feedback from families throughout the year to share your thoughts about the report cards and let us know if you understand what they are trying to communicate. Please watch for future surveys through ParentSquare asking for your input.
IMPORTANT: Unfortunately, the POWER SCHOOL App does NOT report on Standards-Based Grading accurately. If you would like to use your phone to check your child's grades, please log in to PowerSchool using your phone's browser and NOT the PowerSchool App.The browser will give you accurate information. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through the details of creating an informative and comprehensible report card for all students.
PURPOSE OF STANDARDS-BASED GRADING
Standards-Based Grading focuses on how well students meet learning goals, not their overall performance. It gives clear feedback on the strengths and areas to improve based on state grade-level standards. Academics and Learner Behaviors are separated into two different, but equally important reporting areas. This helps families and educators make better decisions to support their students' individual needs.
It is important to know that many standards take almost the full year to teach, learn, and master. As a result, it is common to have students only showing Minimal or Partial understanding at the beginning of the year but grow in their understanding until they reach an Adequate or Thorough understanding.
